I love doughnuts with a passion and my passion was fueled when I went to General Porpoise yesterday. From my first bite it was obvious that no other doughnut could compare to the beautiful pieces of heaven that were before me. General Porpoise exclusively makes filled doughnuts and normally I am not a filled doughnut kind of girl but the experience of these doughnuts broadened my horizons. First of all the shop is adorable with a white and pink color scheme that has a very clean, modern, and pretty look. Second of all they always have seasonal flavors that are very fun and creative then they have their classic doughnuts that are always at the shop; chocolate marshmallow, vanilla custard, and lemon curd, all of which are amazing. My mother ordered the chocolate and vanilla doughnuts while I stood outside with my spastic chocolate lab and she told me that, because they learned I was blogging about them, they gave me a free lemon curd doughnut so I could taste an extra which was really, super generous, so thank you General Porpoise. Then I was forced to sit in the car with the box of doughnuts on the way home which was one of the most torturous events I have ever had to undergo in my life! However, once we got home I took a little taste of each doughnut and it was heaven.
One thing that these doughnuts had that made me love them even more was that they had a slightly crisp but golden outside and a light-as-a-feather inside.
The chocolate marshmallow was the first one I tried and it was a thing of beauty with the little pieces of chocolate inside and the marshmallowy texture adding a new layer to the beautiful doughnut. Then I had the lemon curd doughnut and was very impressed. Usually lemon curd doughnuts are way too sweet but this was the exception. The filling was light, creamy and tangy, it
almost had the texture of a lemon bar and was completely perfect. Last but certainly not least I had the vanilla custard. It was wonderful and luscious and I could have eaten ten. It was creamy and very vanillay and soooo velvety.
General Porpoise was quite honestly the most perfect and wonderful doughnut place ever and I highly recommend it, even if you don’t like doughnuts try it because it is a new caliber of doughnut.
